REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CAIRO -- The Arab League (AL) on Tuesday condemned the pro-settlement remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an evidence of his anti-peace stance.

"These positions, which are completely rejected, cannot be adopted by a person who seeks peace," said Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, head of the Cairo-based pan-Arab organization, adding that "Netanyahu proves everyday his hostility to peace."

The Israeli prime minister vowed Monday to never remove any Jewish settlements from the occupied West Bank.

"There will be no more uprooting of settlements in the land of Israel. It has been proven that it does not help peace," he said.

Aboul-Gheit said that Netanyahu's stance aims at seeking continued support by Israeli pro-settlement extremist right-wingers who reject any Israeli-Palestinian settlement based on the two-state solution.

Israel is blamed by the international community for the deadlock of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process since 2014 caused by Israel's settlement expansion policy, which is rejected even by it strongest ally, the United States.

The Knesset, Israeli's parliament, approved earlier this year the so-called "Regulation Bill," according to which about 3,850 housing units in dozens of outposts built illegally on privately owned Palestinian lands would be retroactively legalized.

Both outposts and settlements are illegal under international law as they were built on Palestinian territories occupied by Israel in the 1967 War.

The Palestinians seek to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital in the light of the UN-proposed two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders.
