REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The dialogues among religious communities must be introduced and maximized not only at the elite level but also in the grassroots. In fact, the grassroots do not understand the substance of the dialogues, then they are easily provoked which led to religious conflict.

The Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth, Saleh P Daulay, said, the dialogues among religious communties should be maximized for the best stability and harmony. “So important is it so that national development will be maintained well in every aspect,” Daulay said.

He explained, foreign investors would flock to Indonesia as long as the nation eliminated the security concern linked to religious conflict. He believes, stability will be a key factor to Indonesian development.  

The Chairman of Khonghucu Youth Generation (Gemaku), Tan Thay Yang, regrets that the dialogues among religious communities are not maximal yet. As a result, such situation causes intolerant behavior at the grassroots, due to lacking of proper education and prosperity. With the spirit of tolerance, Tan said, they would help each other and fill the scarcity.

Tan believes, such dialogues can be carried put maximally because traditionally it has been occurred for hundreds years. If there had not been any dialogue, the big temples in Semarang, Central Java, and others would not have been built.

The Chief of Hindu Youth Organization (Peradah), Wayan Sudane, said, the lacking of dialogues can lead to the security concern. Furthermore, such problem will taint the sacred values of religion.
