REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Peaceful demonstration on November 4th is highly appreciated by Central Board of Muhammadiyah. According to Muhammadiyah, it was massive and sympathetic. "It was a peaceful, democratic, orderly and dignified," Chairman of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nasir said.
Regarding the riots at the night of November 4th rally, Muhammadiyah believed there are certain party who want to portray Islam seem anarchistic. "We deplored the riots happened after the peaceful rally," Haedar to Republika.co.id on Tuesday (11/8).
Muhammadiyah believed the riots were not done by protesters as they have showed al-akhlaq al-karimah (noble traits). "It was probably the act of people who wanted to spoil the nobility of the attitude and aspirations of Muslims, they tried to collide the people with security forces to create the impression of anarchistic," Haedar said.
Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah regretted the President did not communicate with the people during November 4th rally. It will bring positive impact if the President met with the representative of the protesters. "For now and the future, we hoped the government will be more responsive and communicate with all parties to accommodate and respond to the Muslims aspirations," Haedar remarked.
Nevertheless, Haedar also appreciated the President commitment to process alleged religious blasphemy by Jakarta governor (inactive) Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) transparently. "We hoped that the commitment could be implemented consistently," said Haedar Nasir after meeting with Jokowi in Muhammadiyah Headquarters, Jakarta, Tuesday (11/8).
