REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA -- The Eid al-Fitr prayers to be offered in the district next Sunday will not disturb the worship of local Christians, according to the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Mimika District in Papua Province.
"Things such as this have often taken place, and there was no problem at all. It is precisely through such a momentum that we can prove that harmony and tolerance had been well-established among religious believers in Mimika during this time," local MUI Chief Amin A.R. remarked here on Monday.
He said the Eid prayers next Sunday will be centered at the Timika Indah Square, and some 57 mosques in the district town of Mimika, as well as in the area of PT Freeport Indonesia.
As Eid prayers this year are expected to be offered on Sunday, Amin said the Board of Islamic Great Days (PHBI) in Mimika will coordinate with the administrators of churches whose locations are adjacent to the Timika Indah Square.
"We will soon coordinate with the church administrators, so that the Eid prayers and the worship of the Christians will run smoothly and comfortably," PHBI Chairman La Itam Gredenggo affirmed.
