REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin asked people to respect women with niqab as part of their belief. His statement was to comment niqab ban applied at Pamulang University.
"I think it is a misunderstanding. In my view, niqab is part of their belief and it should be respected," said Lukman ini Al Azhar University, South Jakarta, Monday.
Lukman added, by using niqab, people's identity could be easily recoqnized as Muslim. Apart from that, everyone has a right to use clothes in accordance to their preference.

Therefore, he said, everyone must have willingness to respect people's choice of clothing, unless the outfit is disturbing the public. "And it is clear, Muslims have the rules of decency in dress," he explained.
Lukman said, Islamic teachings is a very relevant ideology to be used as guidance and to establish the civilization of the future of the nation. In this time, moderate Islam which is developed in Indonesia, must be able to respect and appreciate the diversity.
"Islam highly respect the dignity of human beings, whatever the religion is" he added.
