REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Swing Out Sister (SOS) as a British group promoting "sophisti-pop", became popular in Indonesia in 1987 when they released one of their hits, Break Out. Andy Connell (keyboard) and Martin Jackson (drum) as the founders of this group, then Corrine Drewery joined the group as lead vocal.
Martin Jackson decided to resign from the band when they produced the second album, Kaleidoscope world, in 1989. The name Swing Out Sister came from a movie title on 1945 starred by Arthur Treacher. Until now, they have nine albums with numerous hits, such as Twilight World, Waiting Game, the remake of Barbara Acklin classic song, Am I the Same Girl?, and La… La… (Means I Love You) which became the soundtrack of the movie Four Weddings and A Funeral.
Even though the sale has been dropped since 80s in US and Europe, they keep attract their loyal fans. The group is also famous in Japan. In 2009, after long vacuum, SOS decided to perform several concerts in Asia. One of the countries was Indonesia, which were holding Java Jazz Festival. They were again performing today at the Java Jazz Festival with their acoustic style.
