REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The arrival of foreign investors must be considered as a trigger to generate Islamic Banking performance in Indonesia. Their role must encourage us to be more creative, the Executive Director of Bank Negara Indonesia Syariah, Rizqullah, said on Tuesday.
“Their arrival is to boost the spirit of healthy competition,” Rizqullah said.
In fact, the foreign investors open another door to cooperate with existing Islamic banks and build industry on real sector. Rizqullah said there should be a balance regulation between foreign and local investors. But, Islamic market share is still too big. “I do not think we have high level competition here since the market is still big. So no need to be worried,” he added.
PT Pemeringkat Efek Jakarta (Pefindo) aggred. The Vice President of Pefindo, Hendro Utomo, said, the arrival of foreign investors could induce the growth of Islamic bank industry because they should compete by improving their products and services. “The customers also get the benefit with the wider range of choices,” Utomo said.
