REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARAWANG - More than 120 illegal immigrants from Afghanistan trying to sneak to Australia through Cemara Jaya Beach in Karawang of West Java were arrested after local fisherman suspected them. The immigrants, using three tourism buses from Jakarta, rented some fisherman boats in Cemara Jaya Beach.
"They planned to use the fisherman boat to reach a ship within a mile from the beach. They will use the ship to Australia," Commander Polairud, Ade Priadi, said on Wednesday.
When the illegal immigrants got in the fisherman boat, local police came with fishermen. Then they were taken to local police office before taken to Karawang Immigration Office.
"Few days ago, a fisherman told me that someone rented 7 GT boat. Apparently, the boat is used to take the illegal immigrants," the Chairman of Indonesian Fisherman in Karawang, Tarpin Adinata, said.
