REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Directorate General of Customs in Riau Islands seized a ship containing 3,300 sacks of ammonium nitrate, to be smuggled to Indonesia. Ammoium nitrate is usually used in agriculture to produce fertitilzer or as an agent of explosive.
"They are sailing through extreme sea," the Head of Operation in Directorate General of Customs in Riau Islands, Andhi Pramono, said on Wednesday.
The ship, KLM Cinta Damai, was seized in international sea Malaysia-South China Sea with 15 crews on board. The ship was carrying 3,300 sacks of ammonium nitrate. Each sack contains 25 kilograms.
"The suspect tried to fool the officers by using fertilizer sack. But after we tested it in the lab, it is positive that the substance is ammonium nitrate," he said.
