Indian Embassy co-host International Day of Non Violence

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Embassy of India in Jakarta in association with the Gandhi Seva Loka organized the first ever Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Lecture to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the International Day of Non Violence, on Tuesday. During the occasion, Vice President of Indonesia Boediono, delivered a lecture about Gandhi's influence to people until today.

"Today we are living in a world amidst intolerance and it is easy to be cynical and lose faith in humanity. Fortunately, we have Gandhi and his values to guide us," he said in a press release from the Indian Embassy. 

"The three forms of depravity exists which is greed, passion for violence and intolerance and to overcome these depravities, Gandhi’s teachings have become all the more relevant," the vice president said. 

A rare collection of photographs encapsulating Gandhiji’s life was also displayed in the occasion attended by about a thousand people. Indian Ambassador, Gurjit Singh, thanked the Vice President for gracing the occasion and for his special gesture to deliver the first Mahatma Gandhi lecture series. 

"It was a significant gesture from the Vice President borne out by the warm and friendly relations enjoyed by both countries," he said.
