REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The big potency of Indonesian mining has attracted Australian investors to invest in Indonesia. Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, said Indonesia has the biggest potency of mining among other ASEAN countries.

He pointed the importance of Indonesian role and mining industry in ASEAN. "We seek for long term cooperation with Indonesia," Moriarty said after press conference of mining exhibition Ozmine 2013 on Thursday.

Moriarty mentioned that Indonesian power was mining sector and therefore many Australian companies depended on Indonesian technicians. "This is an important contribution for the country's economy," he said.

Smelter sector in Indonesia has always been attracted Australian companies. They are also seeking for cooperation on coal, gold, nickel and asphalt. Moriarty said mining sector was the main player for both countries to attract more investment.

Total volume of Australian mining investment in 2012 hits 5.4 billion AusD. Moriarty declined to mention the detail of Australian investment target in Indonesia for 2013 and 2014.

Secretary of Trade at Australian Parliament, Kelvin Thompson, said the number of companies interested in investing in Indonesia increased from 38 to 45 companies. "They have more than 140 projects," he said.

Australia asks for flexibility of mining investment regulation from Indonesia. It also demands for law certainty and full understanding between central and regional governments in terms of Indonesia-Australia relations.

Australia will hold Ozmine 2013 in Jakarta in April 16-17 to build stronger relations between Indonesia and Australia. Moriarty claimed that it would be the biggest mining exhibition ever held in the world.
