REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Financial Services Authority (OJK) issued a regulation on consumer protection in financial services sector. Regulation No. 01/POJK.07/2013 is the first one issued by OJK.
"This regulation aims to protect interests of consumers of financial services industry and community. This regulation also supports growth of institutions and financial services industry sector. Its principle is balance," Chairman of OJK, Muliaman D Hadad said on Wednesday.
This regulation will be an umbrella to financial industry activities, such as banks and capital markets. OJK will also make detailed rules in form of a circular letter. OJK regulation have three main aspects namely transparency improvement, disclosure of benefits, risks and costs of products or Services of Financial Services Businesses (PUJK). PUJK is resposible to assess suitability of products or services including their risks to financial consumers.
OJK makes procedures simpler for financial consumers to submit complaints and resolve dispute to PUJK on products and services. The regulation uses five key principles, namely transparency, fair treatment, reliability, confidentiality and security of data information, as well as settlement of consumer disputes in a simple, fast and affordable cost.
