Chineses, Japaneses and S Koreans dominate Indonesian foreign workers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Workers from China, Japan, and South Korea have the lion shares in 48,002 foreign workers working in Indonesia, according to data of the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration in January to August 2013.

Foreign workers from China reach 10,291 people, Japan 9,788 people and South Korea 6,013 people. While foreign workers from India reach 3,888 people, Malaysia 3,245 people, Thailand 2,779 people, United States 2,546, Australia 2,303, the Philippines 2,168 people, United Kingdom 2,070 and other countries 2,731 people.

Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Muhaimin Iskandar said in globalization era the presence of foreign workers in various fields of work was inevitable. Hence, Indonesia must anticipate it by improving its own human resources. Movement of Natural Persons or labor mobility will be applied intra ASEAN as the deadline of Asean Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 is approaching. 

"Indonesia must anticipate this situation by improving quality and competence of its workforce to prevent the flood of skilled labors from abroad," Iskandar said recently.
