30 units of railway carriages from Japan arrive in Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A total of 30 units of railway carriages from Japan arrived at Tanjung Priok port, North Jakarta on Sunday night. All carriages are purchased by Jakarta train operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) from Japanese operator, JR East.

Communication Manager of KJC, Eva Chairunisa said that the trains were part of provision of 180 units of railway carriages gradually brought by Jakarta Provincial Government in 2013. This train's arrival is the fourth stage of delivery process.

"About 100 out of 180 units have arrived in Indonesia," Chairunisa said recently.

She explained that all trains will be brought to Manggarai, South Jakarta to undergo interior and exterior reconstruction. The new trains will operate after receive a certification from Ministry of Transportation. She estimates that this certification will take one month.
