Ministry: 417 companies ask govt suspend minimum wage

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration's recent data show that 417 companies asked provincial minimum wage (UMP) to be suspended. Most of them are labor intensive enterprises in textile business, footwear and toy industries.

In 2014, those companies consist of 50 companies of Jakarta, 214 companies of West Java, 46 companies of East Java, 101 companies of Banten and six companies of Yogyakarta. The figure decreased compared to 489 companies in the last year. 

"We asked governor and regional office of the ministry to carry out data collection, verification and checking all administrative licenses and reasons carefully," Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Muhaimin Iskandar said on Tuesday.

Iskandar said that the procedure to suspend the minimum wage was still under the authority of governor and regional office of Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration. Government work to avoid job cut especially in labor intensive sectors, so that corporate production activities still take place.
