REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Lion Air Group picks Batam as second major hub after Jakarta to serve its passengers better. In recent months, Lion Air Group increased its flight services from Batam, from 15 to 20 destinations in Indonesia.
Lion Air serve daily flight started on January 29 for route of Batam-Pontianak using Boeing 737-800. The airline will also serve route of Batam-Makassar and Batam-Denpasar.
This second hub will reduce traffic congestion at Soekarno - Hatta International Airport. President Director of Lion Air Group, Rusdi Kirana said that Batam airport had strategic location.
"Batam is important for passengers who want to travel between East and West Indonesia," Kirana said on Wednesday.
Batam determination as second hub will reduce company's operating costs. Lion Air Group plans to launch international flight from Batam to South China, such as Guangzhou and Hong Kong next year. Company also plans to serve route of Batam-Bangkok (Thailand), Batam-Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), as well as to New Delhi and Mumbai in India.
