REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia is facing at least four issues in the field of research that have to be resolved, according to Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) spokeswoman Prof Aswatini.
She noted that the four issues were lack of human resources improvement in research, particularly in the regions; lack of new infrastructure; institutional problem; and lack of actual application of the results of research by the community.
"I hope the solutions to these issues will be discussed with Jokowi government," she said at a function to open a seminar on development and research-based policy.
"The important aspect is that the results of the research can be applied by the community," she said.
Aswatini added that the funds for research were low or around one percent of the state budget. Therefore, she expressed hope that president-elect Jokowi would keep his promise to increase the funds for scientific research to overcome the issues.
