REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government will boost local industry to standardize its products. The move is a preparation towards ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015.

Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel said, being a big market, Indonesia must produce high quality products. "We have to standardize our products," the business-man turned minister said on Wednesday, November 26.

The country will face free trade in 2015 as AEC kicks off. Domestic products must be in high quality to compete with products from other countries. "We have to protect our market from unqualified products," he said.

He stated that it was obligatory for a government and industry to maintain the quality of domestic products. A standard is needed to protect consumers. Government will boost the industry to make its products meet standard in Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

The Chairman of the Gobel Group Companies admitted that processing SNI license was not easy. As a solution, government, through Ministry of Cooperatives and Ministry of Industry, will build the capacity of small and medium enterprises (SME). Government will also give loans. "We will award every enterprise who cares for their customers," he said.
