REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government appoints Executive Director of state-owned bank BRI, Sofyan Basir, as Executive Director of state-owned electricity company PLN. He will serve from 2014 to 2019.
Minister of State Owned Enterprises Rini M Soemarno, who inaugurated Basir, said that he had great achievement when heading BRI.
"He could bring BRI to become big corporate banking," Soemarno said on Tuesday, December 23.
Government also appointed seven director and new commissioner board to manage PLN. The directors are Sarwon Sudarto, Nicke Widyawati, Supangkat Iwan Santoso, Amin Subekti, Amir Rosidin, Murtaqi Syamsuddin, and Nasri Sebayang, while Chandra Hamzah is appointed as Executive Commissioner with Budiman and Hasan Bisri as members. Soemarno hopes the shuffle will increase performance of the state-owned electricity company.
Sofyan Basir said that he had set targets mainly related to mounting PLN's debt, which reached 470 trillion IDR. "PLN has to increase income and be efficient in cost," he said.
He will also map electricity problem in Indonesia to provide electricity to remote areas. "I will consolidate the matter that will be our top priority with other directors," he said.
