REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  North Jakarta District Court's Public Relations, Hasoloan Sianturi, was reluctant to comment on Jakarta Metro Police's petition asking for a delay in the blasphemy trial involving Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as defendant.

He only said the trial would be held as scheduled during the previous session. "As conveyed during the last session, the judges has decided that the next trial would be held on Tuesday (April 11)," Hasoloan said on Sunday.

Hasoloan explained the judges could not make any decision outside the court room. Therefore, there was no change of schedule other than the one that was conveyed at the court room during the last trial. Hasoloan said the institution tried to keep it that way.

Furthermore, Hasoloan remarked that only the judges know what was their consideration and deliberation.

Meanwhile, Public Relations of Jakarta Metro Police Commissioner Argo Yuwono said the police only sent a petition. It was submitted as an advice related to the security aspect ahead of Jakarta gubernatorial election. "The decision would still be on the hand of the district court," he said.

Political observer Muchtar Effendi considered police's petition as akward. He said it was peculiar in the history of the judiciary in the Republic of Indonesia. "North Jakarta District Court has shown the right attitude and the people should safeguard the institution from other institution intervention," he remarked.
