REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Trapped in a long queue before the pay booths at the toll way, The Minister of State Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan was so furious. What would he do then?
The clock was at 06.10 am that morning, when Iskan was on the way to PT Garuda Indonesia, to chair a meeting. As he arrived before the pay booth at Semangi toll way, he found around 30 cars were in a queue and waiting to pay the ticket toll.
He suddenly got off the car, approached the pay booths. He was so furious to find that among four booths, there was only one staff worked in one manual system pay booth while another was automatic system pay booth. Two other booths were still empty and as if in drama, Dahlan threw away the chair of each empty booth. “The chair is useless!” he said fiercely.
Iskan then opened two toll gates, and then allowed dozens of car to pass without paying the toll ticket. Surprisingly, President Director PT Garuda Indonesia tbk, Emirsyah Satar, was one of them. “What are you doing? Controlling the traffic? So this is the free ticket toll way?” Satar said.
The next minutes as no more queue at the pay booths, Iskan left the scene, hurriedly to catch the next plan: a regular meeting at PT Garuda. The furious minister suddenly got major media’s attention and covered by various media including online, printed, and electronics.
Iskan also drew so many comments as the news hit Facebook and Twitter and many praised his heroic action. Many said, this incident was another feature of poor public sector service here. While some others noted, Iskan deserved to be the next Indonesian president. Wow!
