REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Floods have inundated parts of Indramayu District, West Java Province, due to the continuing rainfall.
Soge, one of several villages in Indramayu, was isolated due to flooding, said Ahmad, a local villager.
Flood waters reaching a height of 1.5 meters submerged farming areas, he said, and flood victims are in need of clean water and electricity.
In Bekasi District, also West Java, four elementary school students were found dead on Monday after being swept away by flood waters in South Tambun, Bekasi, West Java, on Saturday.
"The victims have been identified as Agung, 13, Gilang Maulana, 13, Fajar Ricon, 14, and Gilar Satria Nugroho, 14. They were residents of Sasak Tiga Kampong, Tridaya Sakti village, South Tambun," said First Adjunct Inspector W Kartawijaya of the Tambun police office on Monday.
The youths had gone missing Saturday after being swept away by flood waters.
Parts of Bekasi has been hit by floods in the past few days following incessant downpours.
The Bekasi administration now needs Rp600 billion in funding to normalize several rivers in the district.
Rivers in Bekasi are at a critical condition and cannot hold additional rain water because open spaces have been built up into residential and industrial areas.
In Cibitung Sub-district, Bekasi District, thousands of houses have been flooded following heavy rains that have continued since Sunday morning.
The floodwaters reached a height of two meters, submerging housing complexes, such as Mustika Wanasari, Kartika Wanasari, Villa Wanasari, Regency and Grama Puri.
Meanwhile, in Tangerang, Banten Province, nine sub-districts have been flooded over the past eight days, according to Tangerang Mayor Arief R Wismansyah.
The affected sub-districts include Karawaci, Cibodas, Periuk, Cipondoh, Pinang, and Ciledug. The floods are at a depth of 40 cm to 2.5 meters.
