REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Chief of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Commissioner General Anang Iskandar stated that the year 2014 has been designated as the year for national rehabilitation program for drug addicts.
This year, the agency's program will focus on rescuing drug addicts by rehabilitating them, Anang Iskandar noted, when inaugurating a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Jambi, Wednesday.
The number of drug addicts has increased continuously in this country and therefore, a rehabilitation program to rescue them is necessary, Iskandar, a former Jambi provincial police chief, elaborated.
He hopes that every city, district and province in Indonesia has rehabilitation centers to support the BNN program to rescue drug addicts.
"It is better to rehabilitate drug addicts than to put them in jail," he pointed out.
The agency also still intensifies its fight against drug traffickers.
Meanwhile, Jambi Mayor SY Fasha pointed out that it was necessary for the Jambi city regional government to build a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in order to support the BNN program.
"The city government has set aside a plot of land and a budget for the development of the drug addict rehabilitation center in Jambi city," the Jambi Mayor noted after attending the inauguration of a BNN building.
Fasha expressed hope that the central government will support Jambi's plan to set up a rehab center for drug addicts.
"We hope that the central government, particularly the BNN, will offer facility support," he emphasized.
