REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG - As Indonesians commemorate Kartini's day on every April 21, about 600 hundreds of students in a senior high school in Semarang, Central Java, participated in a ceremony held in Javanese. Those who attended the celebration were also wearing traditional clothes.
The program certainly created a new atmosphere during that day. Chairman of School Committe, Mai Yusro, said that the school introducing Javanese culture as part of regular agenda. Some competitions and activities were held at school, including Sinang and Sinok contest, playing traditional game like "gobak sodor" and garnishing traditional food.
Kartini is a symbol of women's emancipation. She was born in Jepara, Central Java, on April 21, 1879. Her keen on education inspired Indonesian women to empower themselves through education.
