REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Constitutional Court (MK) Chief Justice Hamdan Zoelva has called on the supporters of the rival presidential candidates to use the Eid al Fitri occasion to forgive each other.
"Let us use this momentum for exchanging forgiveness and boosting our personal relationships and brotherhood to strengthen national unity and cohesion," he stated at the open house in his official residence on Monday.
Zoelva emphasized that supporters of the Prabowo-Hatta and the Jokowi-JK must shake hands with each other as the presidential election is a mere common democratic process.
"This Eid al Fitri is a good occasion for building unity, and so the people who have different preferences had better unite again," he reiterated.
Zoelva suggested that each camp should promote the message that the election was not a question of life and death, and hence, they must unite again.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has declared the Jokowi-JK pair as the winner of the July 9 presidential election. However, the Prabowo-Hatta pair rejected the decision and filed a lawsuit with the MK citing massive and systematic fraud.
