REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- The Palu police resort will coordinate with the Palu administration and local religious leaders to carry out de-radicalization programs for jailed terrorists in the city.

"We will persuade them to live without breaking laws," Chief of the Palu Police Resort Adjunct Senior Commissioner Basya Radyananda said here Tuesday.

A public campaign on anti-terrorism will also be conducted by local authorities in Palu.

The city's police will also intensify security measures to prevent terrorism activities.

Radyananda has urged the public not to be persuaded by terrorists to break laws.

The National Police's Anti-terrorism Special Detachment Densus 88 and the South Sulawesi police are currently hunting for members of an outlawed armed group in Poso district.

A number of terror suspects belonging to Mujahidin Indonesia Timur (MIT) network were arrested from Poso District recently.

The MIT network, which is led by Santoso, has been accused of sheltering terrorists and assembling guns illegally.

Earlier, Chief of the Central Sulawesi Police Brigadier General Idham Azis said the police will continue hunting and arresting members of armed civilian groups in Poso because they disturbed peace.

"We will chase and chase (them) because terrorists are a state's enemies," he added.

In December 2014, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo had said the government with the help of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) personnel in early January 2015 will crush Islamic State (IS) members who have entered Poso, Central Sulawesi.

"President Jokowi's instruction is to sweep clean. All the TNI forces will be deployed. How come (we have done) nothing against them for the last 10 years. Starting next month, we are going to the field and crush (them)," Minister Kumolo had stated in Papua in late December last year.

The home affairs minister said his ministry has traced 100 foreign fighters of IS, formerly ISIS, who have entered Poso, Central Sulawesi.

"There are 100 foreigners from ISIS (IS) group in Poso. If (they) cannot do jihad in Syria, then (they launch) jihad in Poso," the minister remarked.

Kumolo, a senior politician with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, has stressed that the military will intensify security measures in border areas to prevent IS members from entering Indonesia.

The Indonesian government will not tolerate groups such as IS that will harm national harmony and unity, he noted.

"The TNI will crush them. Every force will be deployed, including the National Police," he added.
