REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GOROANTALO -- The Gorontalo provincial administration is set to implement a forest integration program to save Lake Limboto, according to Deputy Governor Idris Rahim.

"Lake Limboto is currently in a very alarming condition because of silting. Therefore, the forest integration program that involves the Military (TNI) and Police aims to save the lake," Rahim said here on Wednesday (14/1).

He noted that efforts such as reforestation programs around the lake and along the banks of tributaries that empty into the lake have been made to prevent silting.

According to the Gorontalo deputy governor, the forest integration program to save Lake Limboto has been a strategic effort because it is among the 15 critical lakes in Indonesia that needs preservation.

"Lake Limboto's preservation must involve local communities concerned about the viability of the lake," he remarked.

Rahim stated that the forest integration program has also been reported to the central government and the leaders of TNI and the National Police (Polri).

He pointed out that although the provincial administration has implemented numerous programs to save the lake, their results have yet to be optimal.

"Therefore, involving TNI and Polri in the forest integration program to save Lake Limboto is expected to prove effective," he added.
