REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE -- Governor of North Maluku Abdul Gani Kasuba has conveyed his request for the construction of toll roads in his province to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
"President Jokowi's program includes sea toll development, but we need toll roads, especially in North Maluku," he said at a ceremony in Sofifi on Friday.
The event, which was attended by Jokowi, was held to designate Sofifi as the capital of North Maluku.
Kasuba asked for President Jokowi's support to construct toll roads on the islands of Halmahera, Bacan, Morotai, and Sula.
The governor also mentioned his plan to develop North Maluku into a national fish barn because the province has huge fishery potentials.
Moreover, President Jokowi revealed that the government has allocated Rp3 trillion as funding for infrastructural development in North Maluku this year.
The central government also plans to expand Ahman Yani Seaport located in Ternate.
"I come to North Maluku carrying trillions of rupiah for development programs in the region because I am committed to prioritize development programs in eastern Indonesian regions," he stated.
The head of state also gave his assurance that the large-scale development of infrastructure in North Maluku will commence soon.
"God willing, it will start this year. The development of infrastructure will begin in the eastern part of Indonesia," he affirmed.
The president further noted that to develop Sofifi as the center of the North Maluku provincial administration, the character and identity of the city should be promoted.
