REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Newly-inducted chief of the National Defense Forces (TNI) General Gatot Nurmantyo is reluctant to mention his successor as Army Chief of Staff.
"Not yet, I must propose (the Army Chief of Staff candidate) to the President first. All three-star Army generals have the same chance of becoming Army Chief of Staff," Nurmantyo said after being inducted by President Joko Widodo as new TNI chief replacing General Moeldoko at the State Palace here on Wednesday.
When inquired about the names he will propose to the President, Nurmantyo just asked the journalists to find the three-star Army generals themselves.
"It is just to find the three-star generals. There are many three-star generals," he said.
Commenting on the proposal for deputy TNI chief, he said he is still awaiting the President's decision with regard to a change in the organizational structure.
Nurmantyo was inaugurated as new TNI chief on Wednesday, replacing General Moeldoko whose term will end on August 1, 2015.
Born in Tegal, Central Java, on March 13, 1960, Nurmantyo was appointed as Army Chief of Staff on July 25, 2014, replacing General Budiman.
"General Moeldoko has proposed a deputy TNI chief so we are awaiting the President's decision to that effect," he said.
Nurmantyo said he will propose a deputy TNI chief only after the change in the organizational structure has been approved.
