REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Maluku Governor Said Assagaff plans to visit the Mount Botak mining site in Buru district in Central Maluku on Wednesday.
"I along with the Pattimura military commander and Maluku police chief will visit Buru district tomorrow to temporarily close down the gold mining activities at Mount Botak," the governor stated here on Tuesday.
Assagaff noted that the proper management of gold mining activities at Mount Botak is necessary for the welfare of all people in the district and not solely for a certain group of people.
A certain group of people had taken over the role of the local authority and had become a broker to attract investors to invest in the Mount Botak gold mine.
Therefore, the governor will visit the site on Wednesday to temporarily shut down the mining activities.
"We have to temporarily close down the mining activities while establishing cooperatives and seeking investors who will manage the mining activities properly for the welfare of all people there and not for a certain group or individuals," Assagaff remarked.
