REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SLEMAN -- Forest fires often occurred on the slopes of Mount Merapi. This weekend, fires occurred in Umbulharjo village, Cangkringan.
The incident happened on Saturday (3/10) at 11:30 am. It began when someone burned trash and the fire spread to Umbulharjo and Karangkendal due to wind. Because of that, 1.5 hectares of land was burned.
Firefighters, Quick Response Team (TRC) of Sleman, and SAR, assisted by residents immediately tried to extinguish the fire.
"The fires could be extinguished at about 01:30 pm," said an officer of TRC Sleman, Sugeng, Saturday (3/10).
During this week, there had been two cases of forest fires on the slopes of Mount Merapi. Earlier, on Wednesday (30/9) forest fires also occurred in Ngrangkah, Umbulharjo village. One hectare of land which was immediately adjacent to Mount Merapi National Park (TNGM) was burned.
Meanwhile, Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sleman, Julisetiono Dwi Wasito, continued to urge the public to beware of fire. At high temperature, forests and plantations were prone to be burned.
"Including people who like to smoke. Do not throw the butts carelessly. Especially if you're in the trees whose leaves begin to dry up," he reminded.
