Immigration office arrests 30 illegal foreigners

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI - Immigration Office of Bekasi conducted an operation aimed at foreigners who worked as foreign workers in Bekasi, on Thursday (22/10) night. A total of 30 illegal foreigners were arrested in an operation that was done for three days.

Head of Immigration Office of Bekasi, Is Edy Eko Putranto, said this operation was one form of immigration control for foreigners. It was because there were still many foreigners who violated residence rules.

"The operation was held in Bekasi from 20th, 21st and 22nd October. At least during the three-day operation, as many as 30 foreigners were arrested were alleged to have violated rules of residency," he said, Friday (23/10).

From 30 foreigners who were from different countries, one of them was a Japanese. After matching the entire documents, such as passport, KITAS, and Visa, the foreigners would be carried out further examination.

Edy added, that if 30 foreigners were proved to violate the rules, then they would be deported to their country.

"The average of foreigners who were arrested, were violating temporary residence permit. This is in accordance with Article 122 letter (a) of article 75 of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, by deliberately abusing or doing activities that are not in accordance with residence permit granted to him," he explained.

In addition to deportation, the foreigners were also threated of five years in prison or a maximum fine of Rp 500 million.
