REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is now studying the proposal that is offered by Japanese government to rejuvenate train route of Jakarta-Surabaya.
Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said, if the project is to be executed, then the travel time from Jakarta to Surabaya can be shortened to five hours which is now still nine hours. Pramono explained, to shorten the travel time, it will be built overpass or underpass along rail road track. This will minimize barriers and the trains can operate smoothly.
"Train Japan is indeed looking to maximize efficiency while Jakarta-Surabaya speed being so dense and high," Pramono said in Jakarta, Thursday (2/6).
Not only repair the railway line, but to rejuvenate the train carriages and other infrastructures to also be conducted. Unlike the super fast train project of Jakarta-Bandung, Pramono said, the Jakarta-Surabaya train would only has medium speed.
The government is still monitoring the Japanese proposal. He added, the discussion of the cooperation project is still in the preliminary study stage.
"This is Japan's desire, of course the (Indonesian) government will learning carefully," he said.
