REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-run railway company PT Kereta Api (KA) Pariwisata will conduct a trial run for its new sleeper class train on June 11-25. It will be an alternative means of transportation for holidaymakers during Eid al-Fitr.

President Director of PT KA Pariwisata Totok Suryono stated here on Tuesday that the online sales of tickets for the sleeper coach will be started on June 10 through the PT KAI website.

PT KA Pariwisata is a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

"We plan to begin the sales of tickets on June 10. Similar to regular tickets, it will be sold through the PT KAI website," Suryono remarked.

The sleeper coach will be attached to the existing Bromo Anggrek executive train set covering the Jakarta-Surabaya route and Gajayana train set on the Jakarta-Malang route.

Currently, the company has four sleeper coaches manufactured by PT INKA, but it will operate three coaches.

"PT KAI has four (sleeper) coaches, two of which will be attached to the Bromo Anggrek train, one coach attached to the Gajayana train set, and one coach to serve as a backup," he noted.

The company has yet to set the tariff for the sleeper class, but passengers may have to pay more than Rp1 million to enjoy the trip.

With a capacity of 18 passengers per coach, the sleeper class will serve long-distance routes, and passengers will be able to recline their seats to a sleeping position.

The sleeper class falls under the luxury train category, with first-class service similar to that offered by airlines. It provides additional facilities including television, music, Wi-Fi, blankets, food and beverages, and exclusive toilets.
