REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) decision to support presidential candidate number 01, Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin gained critics from its legislative candidates. PBB cadres who backed Ijtima Ulama result prefered to listen to the edict of Grand Imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Habib Rizieq Shihab.

FPI members who became PBB candidates would not participate in efforts to win Jokowi-Ma'ruf pair. All PBB legislative candidates who supported the results of the Ijtima ulama pledged to step down from campaign.

PBB legislative candidates from West Java VI (Depok-Bekasi) electoral district, Habib Muchsin Alatas explained they who supported Prabowo-Sandi would be passive. They would not make an effort to win either the candidate or the party.

"We take the step due to the fact that the registered candidates cannot withdraw from the election," Habib Muchsin said.

He further explained that candidates registered in General Election Commission (KPU) who withdraw from the election will be subject to political sanctions and will be fined to imprisonment. So it means that after the edict, candidates who support Prabowo will not rally voters for candidates or parties," he explained on Tuesday (Jan 29).

He explained that the passivity meant that they would not doing anything, whether raising support or voters. They also would not carry out campaigns to win PBB candidates.

He also mentioned that if there were FPI cadres who finally won seats either in the House of Representative or regional level, he ensured that those candidates would be replaced. They did not want to be in the government camp.

"Because if we are elected, we have to help Jokowi and the party who supports the blasphemy convict. There will certainly be many who want to be replaced with other candidates," he said.

Therefore, he assessed that it would be better for candidates who supported Ijtima Ulama to be passive in campaigning PBB candidates or the party. Now, he said, efforts were being made for candidates for Ijtima Ulama to hold national coordination meeting.

They will communicate with the DPP PBB, either the Party Honorary Council or the PBB's Shura Council, regarding their stance in the upcoming general elections. The Shura Council, the Advisory Council, the Honorary Council or the Central Executive Board of PBB have the rights to annul the PBB legislative candidates.
