Indonesia, Peru agree to cooperate in tourism

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BORACAY -- Indonesia and Peru have agreed to cooperate in tourism.

The agreement was made at a meeting between Indonesia's minister of trade Rachmat Gobel and Peru's minister of tourism and international trade Magali Silva here on Sunday, according to a press statement from the Indonesian ministry of trade.

The bilateral meeting between the two countries' ministers was held on the sidelines of the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting.

The two ministers agreed to develop cooperation in the field of tourism especially hotel business.

Magali Silva said Peru wished to develop cooperation with Indonesia in the tourism sector because of the unique tourism destinations in Indonesia as well as the expertise of tourism business players in Indonesia in developing the industry and hotel sector in particular.

Indonesia has also played a very important role as a distribution center for Peru products in the Southeast Asian region, Magali Silva said.

In view of that Silva hoped the preferential trade agreement between the two countries could be immediately realized.

Minister Rachmat Govel had taken the APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting 2015 as an opportunity for meeting with a number of representatives from Indonesia's partners.

He had met with representatives from Peru, China, Thailand, Russia and the US.

He had met with trade ministers or deputy trade ministers from a number of countries to follow up several issues and as an approach for the country's interests.
