REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia will be the portrait country at the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Expo, scheduled for April 14-17, 2016, in Atlanta, USA.

"Indonesia will be in the limelight, receiving much exposure. All the participants and coffee lovers in the world will come to know more about the country," a press statement issued by the Consulate General (Consulate) in Houston said here on Saturday.

As a portrait country in the SCAA Expo 2016, Indonesian coffee will be the main focus of over 12 thousand visitors and various stakeholders in the sector, including roasters, importers, coffee retailers, distributors, growers, wholesalers and culinary professionals.

Therefore, this rare opportunity can provide a good momentum for establishing Indonesia as the world's coffee paradise, giving it a great branding opportunity.

Coffee consumption trend in the US is continuing to rise, and as one of the largest coffee producers in the world, Indonesia should be able to claim a major role in the US market.

Indonesia was the world's third biggest coffee producing country in 2014, according to the International Coffee Organization.

Indonesia's 3,200-mile archipelago with 17,580 islands, 120 active volcanoes, ample rainfall, fertile soil and ideal temperatures have led to the development of a variety of coffees.

Specialty Arabica coffee is Indonesia's most popular product that is exported and has gained worldwide acknowledgment, positioning Indonesia as the 2nd largest specialty Arabica exporter in the world with 150,000 tons of annual coffee export.

Nearly 100 genetic varieties of Arabica coffee have been created since 1699. Some of these include Sumatera Lintong, Sumatera Koerinci, Sumatera Solok Minang, Java Preanger, Java Ijen Raung, Java Estate, Sulawesi Toraja, Papua Wamena and many more.

Annually, Indonesia is estimated to produce 750 thousand metric tons of coffee. Of this, an estimated 154 thousand metric tons is required for domestic consumption. Of the exports, 25 per cent are Arabica beans, and the rest comprise Robusta.

Wahai anak cucu Adam!

(QS. Al-A'raf ayat 27)
