REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia will re-launch its BRISat satellite on June 16, 2016 in Kaorou, French Guiana (June 17 as per Indonesian time) after the initial plan had to be changed following a fault with the Ariane 5's rocket boosters.

President Director of BRI Asmawi Syam said here on Thursday that the Arianespace, the operator of the Ariane 5 rocket, would have repaired the error by then.

"BRI and Arianespace are highly concerned with this matter as it would be the first launch of what they call a finance satellite," Asmawi said.

The launch of the Rp3.377 trillion (roughly US$250 million) satellite was rescheduled for June 16, at 05:30 pm local time or June 17, 3:30 am (GMT+7) Indonesia time.

The BRI top brass stated that the company did not suffer any financial damage due to rescheduling as it was still the responsibility of the launch operator.

Moreover, the re-launch schedule was still within the company's business time frame, he informed.

After the launch, the satellite will undergo two phases, orbiting and handing over (to BRI), which will take place around 90 days after the launch.

Previously, on Tuesday, the launch of its BRIsat microsatellite had to be postponed due to a problem with the Ariane 5's rocket boosters due to an anomaly in one of the fluid connectors of the rocket boosters.

However, there was no fault with the satellite.

The satellite was planned to be launched on June 8 in Kourou, French Guinea, South America.

The Indonesian BRIsat (Bank Rakyat Indonesia Satellite) is a communications satellite for banking purposes built by Space Systems/Loral for Bank Rakyat Indonesia.

With BRISat, BRI would be the only bank in the world to own and operate its own satellite.
