PLN Indonesia Power's Commitment to Maintain River Water Quality
Successfully collected garbage weighing more than 1,000 tons.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) shows its commitment with real action to always protect the environment. One of them, by participating and taking an active part in the 1,800 meter Tanara Clean Up activity in Sungai Cidurian, Tanara Kabupetan Serang, Banten Province. In this environmental action, garbage weighing more than 1,000 tons was successfully collected.
This series of Tanara Clean Up activities was held from 11-14 January 2024 attended by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin. Along with the activities of Tanara Clean Up, the planting of yellow tabebuya trees was also carried out, as well as the socialization of education about garbage sorting. This activity is also implemented by a number of stakeholders and several industries operating in the Banten region.
Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin appreciated the parties involved and revealed that clean river activities and tree planting are a movement that can bring many benefits, both in terms of health, hygiene, and environmental sustainability.
“Thank you to the parties involved in this activity. This is what I invite to the community, to make today as a monentum of a new, clean, more prosperous life. Let us make this activity a joint commitment to make Indonesia cleaner, healthier and more sustainable,” Ma'ruf said through a press release received by Republika on Tuesday (16/1/2024).
Appreciation also from Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar who attended the event revealed that climate change that threatens the world's population must be mitigated, one of them by planting and maintaining trees and improving the environment. It is also the Government's effort to support and realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The impacts of climate change such as the very hot air that we feel, the conditions of flooding, landslides and others need to be mitigated, which needs to be done, among other things, by maintaining environmental cleanliness that can reduce the burden on the environment due to human activities, with the presence of waste from human activities that enter the river until it continues to enter the sea. We can do waste reduction and waste reduce waste load or reuse, reduce, and reuse or recycle,” said Siti Nurbaya.
The same was said by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, who mentioned that the navy is ready to help the ongoing environmental protection and rescue activities in Tanara District.
“In Tanara, environmental management will be built, which in the future will improve the well-being of people, the Navy is ready to help,” he said.
President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Edwin Nugraha Putra revealed that PLN Indonesia Power's participation in Tanara Clean Up is a manifestation of the company's commitment, maintaining the quality of river water, which is very important for life.
“We are here together with several elements together in one common goal, which is for a clean and environmentally conscious Indonesia,” Edwin said.
According to Edwin, this action involving several elements of society is a real step towards a progressive Indonesia that starts from social and environmental.
Edwin added that this activity is part of an environmental social responsibility action that refers to the 3 pillars of ESG, namely environmental or environmental protection, social or impact for the surrounding community and good governance or leadership.
“As a company that complies with government policy, PLN Indonesia Power adheres to the principles of ESG. So that the company's operating activities are high on environmental sustainability for the survival of living beings now and in the future,” he added.
In this activity, PT PLN Indonesia Power became a company that deployed more than 200 PLN Indonesia Power personnel as well as 1 Excavator unit for sediment dredging. The employees are from the existing power plants in Banten, namely the Lontar Power Plant, the Suralaya Power Plant, the Banten 1 Suralaya Power Plant and the Cilegon Power Plant.
