The Government Suggested not to Have Opposition
Habiburokhman agrees that Indonesian democracy does not need to follow America's example there is no opposition.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Chairman of DPP Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, responded to the remarks of MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet), who proposed that there should be no need for opposition in the Indonesian government. He claimed to strongly agree with the statement of the deputy chairman of the DPP of the Golkar Party.
“Well that's great, that's cool, so the name democracy must be constantly in the process of looking for its shape, we are looking for the ideal format for ourselves. It is not necessary that in America there should be opposition, maybe in Indonesia there is no need for opposition, and unanimous deliberations, cool Mas Bamsoet,” Habiburokhman said at Nusantara II Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (4/4/2024).
Former general chairman of the Golkar Party, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla (JK) also consider it natural for political parties to be pragmatic after the 2024 elections. This happened in the 2014 general election, when Golkar did not side with Joko Widodo (Jokowi), but eventually joined the governing coalition.
“Once we win, join Golkar, it's ordinary politics,” said JK in his speech at the Juwono Sudarsono Hall of the University of Indonesia, Depok City, West Java, Thursday (7/3/2024).
The former chairman of Golkar said that no political party had been established to be an opposition or opponent of the government. Opposition is an accident for a political party that has always been pragmatic in taking decisions.
“Once again no party is founded or wants to be an opposition, opposition for the party is an accident. So therefore it's a lot pragmatic,” said JK.
