REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The history of Islam knows the figure of Sham'un al-Ghozi or commonly called Samson by modern writers. This man is a prophet of God. One of the miracles that God bestowed upon him was the ability to soften iron and knock down palaces.

As the Prophet Muhammad told in a hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once knocked down the solid pillars of the palace with only his two hands. With weapons in the form of animal jawbones, he killed many of God's enemies. Next, this prophet is willing to worship for a thousand months until his death comes.

When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told the story of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to his companions, the Angel Jibril came down with a revelation, namely surah al-Qadr verses 1-5. In that verse, Allah explains the virtue of the night of glory that can only be obtained in Ramadan. The reward for Muslims who worshipped that night was better than the worship performed by the Prophet Muhammad for a thousand months.

It is narrated in Qishashul Anbiyya, that on one night of Ramadan, the Prophet was gathering with companions. Suddenly, the Prophet smiled to himself.

“O Messenger of Allah, why are you smiling at yourself? ” asked one of them.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, “It has been shown to me that on the Day of Judgment, when all men were gathered together in the Mahshar, there was a prophet who carried a sword, and had no people or followers. He was Sham'un al-Ghazi.

The prophet Sham'un al-Ghazi came from among the Children of Israel who were later sent by God in the land of Rome. He has very long hair. As he stood, his hair touched the ground.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) always delivered the treatises of Allah. To his people, he always reminded that “Laa ilaaha illa Allah”, no one has the right to worship but Allah. Meanwhile, the influence of Roman pagan culture led many people to worship idols.

God gave this Prophet a miracle like the Prophet David, that is, he was able to soften iron. He was also able to tear down tall buildings. However, no one was his follower, including the Children of Israel. For at that time people only wanted to follow the rich, not the mighty.

Prophet Sham'un did not give up. He also continued to preach. Finally, the leaders of the Bani Israel began to worry. They agreed not to fight the Prophet Sham'un directly, let alone with violence, because they would definitely lose.

Then, they approached the wife of the Prophet Sham'un secretly. This woman was known for being extravagant and easily bribed with large amounts of wealth.

"O woman, do you know that your husband has made us worried?" asked a Bani Israel figure who was usually called 'king.'

“Know, King,” he answered

"I have an offer for you. "If you can find out your husband's weakness, and succeed in making him weak, we will give you lots of jewellery, gold and jewels," said the King.

"Yes King, I am ready," answered Sham'un's wife.

They gave her a strong leash. On the first night, the wife of the Prophet Sham'un saw her husband praying until late at night. The woman was sleepy because she had been waiting for so long. He also failed to carry out his mission.

On the second night, the wife managed to tie up Prophet Sham'un who was still sleeping. As soon as he woke up, the husband was surprised and asked, "Are you the one who tied me up, O my wife?"

"I just want to test how strong you are, my husband," answered his wife.

However, the Prophet Sham'un easily freed himself.

The next night, the wife used another trick. He seduced the Prophet Sham'un to tell him what really made him weak. Finally, the prophet revealed that his weakness was when his hair tied him up.

The next day, the wife of the Prophet Sham'un tied four strands of hair to the prophet's hands and feet. It is true. Her husband could not destroy this bond.

Then, this woman reported to the Bani Israel officials. Prophet Sham'un was carried to the palace. Still tied up by his own hair, he was tortured by having his legs and arms cut off.

The angel Gabriel came down and asked the Prophet Sham'un. "What do you ask for, O Prophet Muhammad?"

"I want to ask Allah for forgiveness for the mistake I should not have made, namely telling anyone about my weaknesses, including my wife."

So Sham'un repented to Allah seriously. Jibril then told him that Allah had restored his strength.

Instantly, Sham'un's legs and arms, which had been cut to pieces, were now restored to normal. The prophet was also given the power to tear down the palace where he was being tortured.

Everyone who attacks him can be crushed to death. His wife died because she was hit by falling palace pillars.

After that, the Prophet Sham'un vowed that he would worship Allah continuously for a thousand years.
