REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President-elect, Prabowo Subianto called freedom of the press an absolute requirement for the life of Indonesian democracy. This was stated by Prabowo in his speech after being appointed as president-elect by KPU RI on Wednesday (24/4/2024).
“A free press, which is vital, is an absolute requirement of democracy,” Prabowo said at the RI Commission Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (24/4/2024).
Prabowo touched on the issue of press freedom as he thanked the media crews who had worked hard to report on the development of the 2024 presidential election. According to him, the press has provided knowledge to the entire Indonesian people.
“Although it is sometimes spicy on the ears, we still thank the media and our press,” said the general chairman of the DPP Gerindra Party.
On that occasion, Prabowo repeatedly thanked the organizers of the 2024 elections at all levels. “No matter how we are recognized by countries around the world as a country successfully held the largest simultaneous general election in world history,” he said.
The Commission appointed Prabowo-Gibran as president-vice president-elect through News Event Number 252/PL.01.9-BA/05/2024. “The Commission designated the 2nd Vice President pair Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Mr. Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the vice presidential couple elected for the period 2024-2029 in the 2024 election,” KPU Chairman Hashim Asy'ari said reading the news of the event.
Hashim said that the Prabowo-Gibran couple obtained 96,214,691 votes or 58.59 percent of the total valid votes nationwide. In addition, the Prabowo-Gibran pair also met at least 20 percent of the vote in each province spread across 38 of Indonesia's 38 provinces.
