REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO -- PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir called the AFF Cup 2024 an experience for young players to increase flying hours. This was conveyed by Erick after the Indonesian national team was eliminated in the group stage by defeating the Philippines 0-1 at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Saturday (21/12/2024) night.
“The players played as much as they could before. Yes, there were indeed some unfortunate events, there were red cards. Football is a drama,” he said after watching Indonesia's match against the Philippines in the final round of Group B of the 2024 AFF Cup.
Despite failing to score a win over the Philippines, he said the tournament was good for honing the abilities of young players.
“It's good, because in addition to the SEA Games next year, it turned out that I checked for AFC U-23 qualification next year, in 2025,” he said.
Therefore, according to him, today's experience is good for the young players. “Because we have to try to regenerate. Today is not profitable, yes already, we have to accept,” he said.
Alluded to the coach's evaluation, Erick admitted he would. He insisted he did not refer per game only for example because Indonesia lost.
“I can't talk every game, so I have to evaluate everything, not to make mistakes. Success is because the program is good, the coaches are good, the players are good,” he said.
Nevertheless, he said, the evaluation remained in the contracts of all coaches, from Nova Arianto, Indra Sjafri, to Shin Tae-yong.
“Contracted there, all coaches are obligated to be evaluated,” he said.
