REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - ASEAN and China Foreign Ministers will hold a special meeting to determine a code of conduct in the disputed South China Sea. Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa said that progress of preparing draft plan was still undergoing.
Natalegawa said that the meeting would be held this year although no date had been set. It was proposed by China and all countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) had agreed to participate.
"The ideas will be more concrete and it requires special treatment as a conflict prevention," he said on Wednesday night.
Natalegawa stressed to all countries which involved not to disturb the positive atmosphere with provocative action, such as breaking '2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea' as any wrongdoing could complicate the problem. The area was claimed by six countries, such as Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, China, and Taiwan.
