REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Around 40 world runners took part in the Makassar Semi Marathon 2013 at the tourist resort Losari Beach on Sunday, an official said.
"The world runners are among other things from the United States, China, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Kenya, Thailand, the Philippines, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, and South Korea," said Makassar mayor Ilham Arief Sirajuddin here on Sunday.
"The international running event consists of 21K, 10K, and 5K," Ilham said, noting that the 5K category is designed for students.
According to him, the runners passed by the route of Losari Beach, the Rotterdam hostel, the Societet de Harmonie opera house, Karebosi square and the Mandala Monument.
The first-ever international running event was carried out in effort to lure more tourists to visit the South Sulawesi provincial city of Makassar.
In 2011, the US withdrew from Iraq when it failed to secure a similar troop status accord.
