REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANAGUA -- Russia has not negotiated with Nicaragua over the sale of MiG-29 fighter jets, Russian ambassador to Nicaragua Nikolay Vladimir said Sunday.
"I do not know where the rumors of the MiG-29 airplanes come from," Vladimir told local media.
The ambassador said no such sale has been discussed between the two countries, but he admitted there were talks for civil airplane sale.
The talks for civil aircraft sale has just begun so he does not know how many would be sold, said Vladimir.
Vladimir referred instead to other cooperation plans between Russia and Nicaragua, including the donation of 200 tractors.
The Russian ambassador said that in the future his country might also donate other farm machineries and urban buses.
Vladimir said Russia has negotiated with Nicaragua over the installation of GLONASS global positioning system receivers in the Central American country, though he said he did not know when the installation process will begin.
