REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) will issue an edict for Indonesian contingent in London Olympics 2012. The athletes would be given a tolerance during the fasting month, said the Head of Edict Commission of MUI, Hasanudin AF, so they could break the fasting.
"It is possible that MUI to issue an edict, but we must wait for the public demand," he said on Tuesday. The athletes defending for their countries in Olympics are considered as doing “jihad”.
"Besides doing jihad, they were also travelers," he said emphasizing the reasons. Also, the athletes are preparing their condition to compete with other contingents. "But they must pay back their missed fasting days in other days," he said.
An Indonesian contingent for badminton, Ahmad Tontowi, decided to break his fasting while preparing for competition. "I decided to break my fasting during the preparation. The most important thing is that the supply of vitamin and nutrient must be balance," he said.
