REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Video of fast taraweeh prayer raised concerns from a number of ulama. The video showed that the time of one rakat only performed in 20 seconds, so that the total only lasted 10 minutes. Thousands of pilgrims were flocked to follow the taraweeh prayers.
"It doesn’t matter how many rakats for taraweeh prayer. But, keep in mind one of the pillars of prayer is tumakninah (calmness)," said Ustadz Muhammad Abduh Tuasikal, on Friday, June 26.
Calmness levels in bowing (ruku) and prostrating (sujud), according to ulama from Syafi'iyah when we have got a tasbih recitation. If under it, said Abduh, it means there was no calmness. The implication, prayer was invalid because we have been neglecting the pillars of prayer.
He said, in a hadith, the Prophet once ordered to someone who prayed so quickly to repeat the prayer again. It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah, when the Prophet entered the mosque, then entered a person to perform prayers.
Once completed, someone came and greeted the Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet replied the greeting, and then said, "Repeat your prayers because actually you are not praying." And the man went back to prayer.
After that, he came back to the Prophet. The Prophet repeated the same command, "Repeat your prayers because actually you are not praying." The order was repeated three times.
Then the person said, "For Allah, who sent you to bring the truth, I cannot pray better than that. So, teach me! "The Prophet then taught him.
Syaikh Abdurrahman bin Qasim said, there were many priests did not wear logic when praying taraweeh. They did so without any calmness when bowing and prostration. Moreover, calmness is including pillars of prayer.
In prayer we are also required to bring the heart and take lessons from the verses of Allah which were read. Of course calmness and solemn were not found when someone was racing against time in prayer.
"Spirit of prayer is when the heart actually facing Allah," he said.
