REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Institutions of lawful advocacy, Indonesia Halal Watch (IHW), is dubious of the imported halal meat that are in stock to meet government needs for consumers during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1437 AH, because until now it is not clear where the meat came from.
"To meet the standardization of products, slaughter must be checked as well. The government must ensure the correct halal products, not the origin of imported meat," said Executive Director IHW Republika.co.id Ikhsan Abdullah, recently.
If the meat is imported from Australia, then there must be an affirmation of the state where the meat came from. There are some states in Austalia which has worked with the Institute for Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM MUI) related to halal meat that can be consumed, but there are still many states that do not cooperate with LPPOM-MUI.
Supposedly, said Ikhsan, only meat imported from states that have cooperated with LPPOM MUI alone. That point should be one of the important conditions when the government wants to import meat.
As reported earlier, the government plans to import beef to meet the needs during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1437 AH. To meet the needs of the beef during Ramadan and Eid, the government has decided to import beef as much as 27 thousand tons. A total of 10 thousand tons and 5,000 tons passing through PT Bulog Berdikari (Persero).
