REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo has called on Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to maintain the unity and national brotherhood, especially during the political year where people shared different opinions and choices. He stated that during commemoration of the 73rd Muslimat NU anniversary at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, on Sunday (Jan 27).
"Let's maintain ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood), ukhuwah wathoniyah (national brotherhood)," he said.
Jokowi reminded that political differences should not break the bond between brothers and sisters. He acknowledged that many people insulted and denounced each other in the policial year.
"Let's respect each other's political choices as Indonesia is country with a pluralistic society," he said.
Furthermore, Jokowi said Indonesia as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world must show a moderation in Islam and avoid radicalism.
